My first zoom lens!

I have been shooting with all prime lenses for as long as I can remember. Primarily, because I love the image quality of primes and secondly because I prefer using my feet to zoom in or out of the scene.

But then, my passion is to photograph people and their stories, and I did realise something was getting in my way of doing that effectively. This was most prominent during my recent trip to Bhutan where I felt the need for an ultra-wide lens at one moment, followed by a 35mm lens the next!

So I came back from Bhutan and decided to try out my first zoom lens- the 16-35mm f2.8 G-Master. I intend to use it at 28 or 35mm 70% of the time, and it gives me the flexibility to go back to 16 or 18(since I am used to the Zeiss Batis 18mm) or even 24mm.

One of my reasons to not use zoom lenses were because they are usually heavy. Thank God the Sony version is around 650g,  much lighter than Canon or Nikon counterparts.

Lets see how I like the lens in my next travel expedition- who knows I might not even enjoy it. Whatever it is, its probably the only zoom I will ever need or buy.
